Major to watch 

Newcrest Mining opens proceedings, fresh off its full year production results, which saw Australia’s biggest gold miner deliver just shy of 2 million ounces of gold production. Newcrest continues to achieve lower operating costs by driving economies of scale – led by the flagship Cadia mine which delivered a negative AISC this year. In WA, all eyes are on the Havieron project, which continues to grow as exploration continues, and we await a decision on whether the full development will proceed.

Honourable mention – not a major, not a junior, but no doubt one of the more interesting speakers on the bill will be Genesis Minerals’ MD Raleigh Finlayson.

Junior to watch

Antipa Minerals has been kicking round the Patersons Province for several years now, with some strong nearology claims among its assets. The Company is pushing ahead with its 100% owned Minyardi Dome Project via a pre-feasibility study scheduled to kick off later this year.

ASM’s chairman Ian Gandel should also be worth a listen. The Company has ridden some highs and lows this year, but the critical minerals thematic seems to have momentum and ASM has plenty of those lurking beneath the ground at its Dubbo Project.

Junior to visit

The Company is just off the divestment of its Mexican assets, in which it still holds some exposure after a $20m scrip and cash deal with Bendito Resources. The share price has had a little run in the last month or so, and the Company is cashed up as it works on its Andover nickel/copper/cobalt project in the Pilbara.

After hours:

Once Red 5 completes the Monday graveyard shift it will be time for a little networking inside the marquee with the Clarke Energy Cocktail Party.

Off site, lucky invitees could be treated any number of shindigs, including Steinepreis Paganin upstairs at the Palace Hotel, Macquarie’s event at the Hannan’s Club and Canaccord’s well-attended cocktail party, which usually has punters queued up to get a look inside.

Citadel-MAGNUS, of course, has invites to all of them and will bring any juicy updates tomorrow.

LAST WORDS

“Do you want some accommodation mate?” Music to the ears of some lucky punters – but not so good for those who utter them. Word has it that the “sold out” sign that went up once the 2620 delegates had registered for the Conference caught some industry types by surprise. With flights and accommodation booked – but no ticket to the main event – a handful of rooms became available late last week as flights were hastily cancelled. Oh well, there’s always the Livestream!
